Postgraduate Study

The interdisciplinary postgraduate program in Sociology at Melbourne is hosted by the Department of Political Science. The courses offer a deeper understanding of the social and cultural questions at the centre of contemporary life and investigate forms of crisis evident in contemporary social phenomena. The diverse coursework options and research specialisations are directed to the analysis of social action and movements, transformations in the life course, and the various guises of identity. Postgraduate students have opportunities to develop practical field work skills and a variety of research methods and critical approaches used in social analysis, including those leading up to higher degree original research. An innovative internship program is also available.

Graduates of Sociology are able to choose from a variety of career pathways and will continue to draw on their analytical skills throughout their professional development. An articulated structure of postgraduate courses in Sociology is offered at Melbourne for those interested in expanding their interests and knowledge in the discipline.
